Yesterday, at the International Ski Congress in Kangwonland, South Korea, the FIS Council accepted a bid by the prestigious Swiss ski resort of St Moritz to host the 2017 Alpine Skiing World Championships.

St Moritz last hosted the World Champs in 2003 and managed to fend off bids by the Swedish ski resort of Are and the Italian ski resort Cortina d'Ampezzo to gain the 2017 Alpine Championships.

Finland was chosen to stage the Nordic Championships, Sierra Nevada in Spain will host the Freestyle Snowboarding and Skiing Championships and Kulm in Austria will host the Ski Flying World Championships.
