A unique attraction at Murren is the ‘Classic James Bond 007 Breakfast Buffet' up in the Schilthorn restaurant (+41 (0)33 856 21 40), 2970 metres above sea level, and served between 8 and 10.30am daily. It’s a fairly surreal experience to dine in the restaurant they filmed in more than 40 years ago, when some proceeds from the filming were donated to help finance completion of the revolving restaurant in which you’re eating, after the funding had dried up. There’s no shaken-not-stirred Martini at dawn to start your experience but a non-alcoholic Prosecco or Rimus is served with a wide range of breakfast favourites – although whether Bond himself would go for the Birchermuesli and various yoghurts or choose the great British fried bacon and sausages remains debatable. The meal costs range from 14.50 Swiss francs for 7 to 12 year olds to 27.50 for adults, with 13 to 16 year old receiving a small discount and children aged six and under eating free.
Shopping is limited with only a handful off shops to choose from, most covering ski holiday essentials. One not to miss for James Bond fans in the souvenir shop at the Schilthorn which stocks 007 memorabilia along with the normal Swiss souvenirs. If you are interested in serious shopping, the Jungfrau regional ski pass covers rail travel all the way down to Interlaken which is a large town with hundreds of shops so good for a day trip.
