Saas Fee ski resort has one of Europe’s highest ski areas – starting at almost the altitude that many other famous ski areas top out, yet still managing to offer a massive vertical above, topped by a glacier ski area open almost year round. Surrounded by thirteen 4,000m+ peaks the scenery is spectacular and the village relatively peaceful, as cars were banned from here the day a road first reached the resort in 1951.

Overview of Saas-Fee Ski Resort

One of the world’s top ski areas in several respects, on your Saas Fee ski holiday you’ll find this is one of Europe’s highest traditional resorts, located in spectacular scenery surrounded by 4,000m peaks. It has many interesting assets for holiday makers year round, including both the fact that it has always been car-free, so is delightfully peaceful and atmospheric and an abundance of accommodation on offer, including several five star hotels such as the Ferienart.

The ski area is one of the world’s highest, stretching for nearly 2,000m above the village to 3,600m – quite an achievement when you consider many ski areas stop only a few hundred metres higher than Saas Fee village, which is at the bottom of the slopes here. The top of the ski area is actually a glacier which is open for snow sports for more than 10 months a year (it closes for a few weeks in mid-Spring). The glacier is particularly well known for its summer terrain park and half pipe which attract World Cup competition in early November each year. In winter the area pass covers the nearby ski areas of Saas Almagell and Saas Grund ski areas as well.

The lift system is impressive too, including an underground funicular railway up the mountain, and attractions include the world’s highest revolving restaurant on Mittelallin at 3,500 metres (just under 11,500 feet).
