With Park City’s other resorts, particularly Deer Valley, building a reputation for gourmet quality lunches and the world’s best service in their mountain restaurants, Canyons has to perform highly to compete. The choices include The Red Pine Lodge (+1 (435) 615 2888) located mid-mountain at the top of the gondola serves a classic American menu cafeteria style including pizza, soups, sandwiches and burgers; Lookout Cabin ( +1 (435) 6152892) located on Lookout Peak at the mid-station of Orange Bubble Express and top of the Short Cut lift, which aims for a more gourmet standard, table-served Rocky Mountain cuisine with great views of the Wasatch mountains and the spacious and airy Sun Lodge, (+1 (435) 615 2890) located above the Base of Sun Peak Express serving a full menu. The latest mountain restaurant, opened in early 2011, was Cloud Dine (at the top of DreamCatcher and DreamScape lifts) which has an onus on deli style fresh pizza, salads, soups and sandwiches. All of these restaurants provide a good service with a range of lunchtime offerings ranging from affordable dining through to gourmet standards on-mountain food.
Restaurants In Town
The choice of evening dining is slowly growing but remains limited at Canyons as most guests planning to dine out opt to make the short trip to Park City itself where around 80 restaurants await.
However Canyons offers several dining options but unusually they’re all managed by one company, the Talisker Restaurant Collection. Although perhaps it’s not a surprise, and certainly not a bad thing, when you discover Talisker’s ‘Rocky Mountain Cuisine’ is award winning for both the cuisine and the service.
Along with the all day choices on the mountain and a few smaller base cafes, the Red Tail Grill (Canyons Grand Summit Hotel, +1 (435) 615 8068) serves south western US cuisine such as grilled meats and fish and there’s also the restaurant in the new Waldorf Astoria Park City (+1 (435) 647 5566) in the lower village which favours locally sourced, in-season ingredients from Utah farms in its eclectic American menu.
Canyons also offers Western-themed sleigh ride dinners and other dinner events that are well worth signing up for the experience as well as the good food!
In Park City itself there’s a vast array of dining choice from all around the world, in all styles and to all budgets – there are websites and guide books dedicated just to eating-out options in Park City. Expect to find everything from fast food to the highest level of gourmet and flavours of the world from the usual Italian and Mexican through to Cajun, Sushi, Californian and many, many more.
