Crested butte has a nice selection of fairly priced restaurants. A handful of which are on the mountian, a good selection at Crested butte Mountian Resort and the pick of the bunch located in old town Crested Butte. Here are our recommendations if you are feeling peckish...
On the mountain:
There is a small selection on restaurants on the mountain which serve the usual pizzas, pasta, grill menu and snacks as well as the all-important hot beverages to help you warm up! We recommend Ten Peaks at the top of the painter boy lift and Paradise at the bottom of the Paradise lift. Uleys cabin is definitely a recommendation for lunch, but you can also make the uleys experience a little more special and head up on a sleigh and enjoy an amazing 5 course dinner up on the mountain! There is a greater choice in the village at Mountaineer Square and with its great location right at the bottom of the slopes it is easy enough to head down for lunch and get back on the mountain without wasting too much ski time.
Off the mountain:
Django's is the place to eat at Crested Butte Mountain resort, it is cosy and intimate and serves a delicious range of dishes paired with an excellent wine menu. Only open Wednesday to Sunday, it is best to book a table here. 9,380 Prime Restaurant and Bar is another chic location at the mountain resort, once only serving high end cuisine, the restaurant now has a mixed menu and a casual feel - ideal for lunch or dinner. Our last recommendation at the mountain resort is for Avalanche Bar and grill, open form Breakfast to Late this is the best spot for a great value meal anywhere in Crested Butte.
In the old town of Crested Butte there are a few more restaurant options and it is well worth a ride on the free shuttle bus if you are staying up at the mountian resort. Head to Elk Street where most of the culinary action takes place!
Starting with breakfast - to get some fuel for your day on the mountian head to Izzy's this cute building houses the best breakfast spot in town - try their latkes (like hashbrowns) they are famous in Crested Butte as are the handmade bagels. Another great shout for brekkie is Camp for Coffee - renowned for thier breakfast burritos - they have a location at the mountian resort, but if you can, head to their Elk Street shop, it's a treat with the exterior covered in number plates - you can't miss it!
After a long day on the mountain you'll need a good dinner and there is plenty to choose from in Credted Butte. Try Donita's Cantina, rated highly, this family run Mexican serves all the usual favourites at very reasonable prices, we're told the margaritas alone are worth the trip! Another affordable favourite is the Secret Stash.. opps... not so secret anymore, this is the best pizza in town! The Westend Public House serves up fantastic pub food in a relaxed setting or if you would like something a little more formal, try the Eastside Bistro, owned by the same folk this is a great spot for a gourmet treat. Lastly, the Sherpa Cafe brings a fantastic taste of Nepal and India to town and does so at a very reasonable price.
