Vail has a reputation for being one of the livelier of North American resorts, particularly in Vail Village, where you can walk between venues, which helps build a bit of atmosphere.
There’s a good website that lists everything in one place with all the current offers, live acts in town and so on – visit: vailpm.com.
Lively venues to head for include The Red Lion (304 Bridge Street; +1 (970) 476 7676; theredlion.com) for beer and onion rings, nachos and burgers, Pepi’s and olde-English-style pub The George. The Club (304 Bridge Street; +1 (970) 479 0556) tends to attract “the younger crowd.”
The Tap Room (333 Bridge St; +1 (970) 479 0500; taproomvail.com) located around the corner from the base of the Vista Bahn lift in the heart of the village is popular with the locals and has dancing upstairs to 1am.
Of course there are lots of sophisticated cocktail bars in the classy hotels or choose the Samana Lounge (228 Bridge Street; +1 (970) 476 3433) which seeks to emulate the ambience of intimate dance clubs in Amsterdam, Paris and Prague; you can sup cocktails or martinis with your little pinky raised in a relaxed, candle-lit setting.
At Lionshead the main venue is Garfinkel’s where the atmosphere is fuelled by a happy hour and a DJ.
