Resort Attractions

The Hot Sulphur Springs (5609 County Road, Hot Sulphur Springs; +1 (970) 725-3306) is located 30 minutes from the ski slopes. It’s one of the oldest and largest of hot mineral spring resorts and has attracted visitors for more than 140 years, and prior to that the Ute Indians believed the waters healed mind, body, and spirit. Over 200,000 gallons of natural hot mineral-rich water flow through the pools each day at temperatures brought down to a bearable 95º to 112ºF.

The Hot Sulphur Springs had a million dollar renovation in the late 1990s and visitors today still benefit from the improvements made. The original 7 pools were expanded to 22 pools and private baths of all sizes, shapes and depths. There’s also a jet spa and outdoor oriental bath and solarium pool as well as a lap-therapy-soaking pool and outdoor private pagoda pool.

The complex also includes a 16-room spa and treatment centre where guests can enjoy a facial or full body massage using a wide menu of techniques. Salt glow, body wrap, pedicure, manicure and many other treatments are available.

Shopping

There are now about 100 shops in the area of Winter Park, with half a dozen mostly clothing and snowsports stores at Winter park resort at the base, then a larger selection including all holiday essentials in the Winter Park village a few miles away, and as many again in the nearby town of Fraser.

Base village shops include Trail's End Mercantile at the base of the Zephyr Express lift which stocks gifts and T shirts, and West Portal Outfitters at the base of Winter Park Resort which carries the latest brands and logo-wear.

Further out, Cooper Creek Square has over 20 shops and restaurants, with stores selling clothing, jewellery and art. If you’re looking for something local, the Elk Horn Art Gallery (+1 (970) 726 9292) featuring all the works of Winter Park's celebrated local artist Karen Vance as well as other Western and South-western US landscape and wildlife art, is a good place to visit.

For any ladies in the party, Peezie Marie Gifts for Gals (78930 US Hwy 40; +1 (970) 726 8494) is a shopping experience not to be missed. In Fraser the Fraser Valley Shopping Center is the main retail focus.
