British skier James Woods from Sheffield became the first Brit to make it onto the podium at this year’s winter X-games in Tignes, France.

Conditions were testing in Val Claret for the Mens Slopestyle Skiing as the course was running slower than usual due to the fresh snow making it difficult for skiers to gather vital speed to make the kickers’ landings. This coupled with low visibility, passing storm clouds and blustery winds tested competitor’s nerve and skill to their limits.

Woods fought off rival and previous X-games gold winner Bobby Brown to take a respectable third position with a very strong rail section, a double cork and a switch 900. Later that day the Mens Snowboarding Slopestyle was postponed due fears that the conditions were no longer safe for competitors to ride.
