Serre Chevalier, one of Europe’s biggest ski areas with 250km of runs is among those opening this weekend. The pistes open on December the 11th on all sectors of the giant ski region in the southern Alps which stretches for 13km in length above the valley below. This year there’s a brand new six man chair "Vallons" connecting Villeneuve - Monêtier Express in less than seven minutes.

Another new innovation is a 24 hour touchscreen service in Villeneuve dubbed "Serre Chevalier Smart Info." Here’s you’ll get information on the whole area or you can download a free app available on Villeneuve to your smartphone when you detect a Neptune WIFI signal.

This provides a weather forecast, ski pass reloading, daily events listings, cinema times, snow conditions. Or if you have an iPhone the new Skiplan app has all this and moiré – including shops and accommodation geolocation, augmented Reality and more.

It’s a whole new world out there! But thankfully the snow is just the same...
