Resort Attractions

La Rosière’s position on the Italian border, linked to Italy via a windy plateau, puts it in a good position to offer a variety of air related snow sports. Heliskiing (+33 (0)4 79 40 19 80; evolution2larosiere.com) is a rare offer from a French ski area as it’s banned in France. Several resorts do offer a lift over the border in to France but La Rosière is the only resort where you can rejoin the lift network and ski back on some itineraries.

Snow kiting (+33(0)6 12 10 32 42; darentasia.com), where you wear a small paragliding sail (oh yes, you can paraglide too) and go around a circuit on your skis or board, pulled by the wind, is offered up on the plateau above the resort. Or you can try fairly similar speed riding (+33 (0)6 12 10 32 42; darentasia.com) – the difference being you come down the slope getting some big air thanks to the mini para-sail en route.

Shopping

La Rosière’s selection of more than 40 shops is mostly geared up to ski holiday essentials and does not include many general stores, because the resort closes for several months in the closed season outside of winter ad summer, so there’s no year-round trade to rely on. Instead local food shops and the selections of sportswear shops open to cater for skiers in winter and some for mountain sports fans in summer too. Besides food and ski shops there are several souvenir stores, newsagents and a photographic shop though. For a much bigger selection head down to Bourg St Maurice.
