Given its fragmented nature and focus on traditional values and the quieter Nordic sports, it’s no surprise that Peisey Vallandry is not the liveliest of places after dark. But that’s not to say there aren’t fun venues to be found if you’re looking for some noisy nightlife. Peisey Nancroix, which has a high proportion of international, particularly British guests, has the best of it.

The Flying Squirrel (Quartier des Aiguilles, Peisey-Nancroix; +33 (0)4 79 07 92 77) may not quite match St Anton’s Krazy Kanguruh bar for being swamped by hundreds of drunken Germans, but it is the main village pub and a great one at that with live music or DJs on occasion, Sky Sports on the big screen and gourmet burgers and paninis to eat.
Greg’s Bar (rue des Monts d'Argent, Peisey-Nancroix; +33 (0)4 79 07 93 09;) is also good for an après ski cocktail and also lively right through to 2am nightly, there’s free WiFi to catch up on your email or just surf on your ‘handheld device’.
