Biathlon, a sport whereby you cross-country ski with a rifle on your back, then stop every few kilometres to try to hit five distant targets before racing on, is quite popular in France. One of the world’s best biathletes of recent years, Raphael Poiree, is from the country and there are many more stars.
Facilities for training are dotted around the skiing world, and one of the few, a French national training camp, is in Peisey Vallandry and the French ski school offers biathlon lessons to first timers on cross country skis, or holding a rifle, or both. Lessons are for anyone aged over 14, with rifle and ammunition supplied and last 90 minutes.

Shopping
There are several dozen shops dotted around the five villages but of course the vast majority are either selling food products or renting skis and selling sportswear. So Peisey Vallandry is not a resort for shoppers. For a wider choice you’ll need to travel to Bourg St Maurice or the small mountain malls of Les Arcs or la Plagne. The closest big shopping area is Albertville.
However there are half a dozen other retailers of gifts and souvenirs that are worthy a look in. One of the most interesting is the Cristal Aventure's Stone Shop (+33 (0)6 74 29 01 11) in Peisey village which is a haven for budding geologist, filled with interesting rocks and stones.
There are several souvenir shops up at Plan Peisey with D'Or, d' Argent et de Bronze (+33 (0)4 79 07 82 63) specialising in ‘fun jewellery.’ There are newsagents with other gifts and other items on sale in Peisey village, Plan Peisey and Vallandry.
