Sainte Foy is a good choice for a more holistic, high quality family ski holiday away from the crowds. It's a charming resort ideal for getting away from the hustle and bustle of a larger resort. And Bourg St Maurice is only a short drive away.

There’s no nursery provision for children aged under three but a registered child-minder, Mathilde Bouteille (+33 (0)6 09 15 80 53), will look after children aged from just a month old to three years, at her home, in the hamlet of la Thuile, but that does work out quite an expensive option. Les P'tits Trappeurs nursery (+33 (0)4 79 069515) is available from ages 3 to 11.

If you'd like an English run option then there's Jelly & Ice Cream, run by Tina Eliades +33 6 79 769 5 95. They specialise in private nannies and baby sitting.

The French ski school offers ski kindergarten from age four upwards and there’s also the option of booking a private family ski lesson together for four people for three-and-a-half hours in the afternoon.

Lift ticket prices for children are better than at most leading French resorts and you do not pay for kids' lift tickets at all until age 7 – a year or two older than at almost all other French resorts.
