Food-wise, Bourg St Maurice is certainly no less alpine than any of the chocolate box villages you find higher up in the mountains. There's a wide range of restaurants in town, and menus feature plenty of the traditional Savoyard favourites - tartiflette, raclette and fondue, as well as delicious local cheese and an abundance of charcuterie.

Using fresh, local ingredients L'Art des Mets (+33 479 07 23 78) provide great value menus offering all the Savoyard staples as well as some more creative dishes, incluing gratins, reblochon chicken and three cheese fondue with chanterelles.

Le Chamarel (+33 479 07 50 85) is another great option for traditional cuisine, but their diverse menu is also influenced by delcious Indian flavours. The light-filled restaurant is a lovely place to enjoy lunch with friends, or book a table in the evening for a romantic candle-lit dinner.

If you fancy something a bit different, try the newly opened Alta Rocca on the Avenue du Stade (+33 479 00 69 00). They serve Corsican and Italian specialities, and are already becoming famous for their amazing pizzas.
