Family Guide to Avoriaz

Avoriaz is undoubtedly one of the best ski resorts in France for families. Everything has been carefully planned with families in mind and the ski-in/ski-out nature of all the Avoriaz accommodation means it couldn't be easier to get to and from the slopes.

Add to this the fact the whole village is pedestrianised with the only traffic being the occassional snow mobile and charming horse and sleigh taxis, which kids will love.

In addition, Avoriaz is a short transfer from Geneva Airport of around 75 minutes which can be a huge plus when travelling with children.

Easy Accomodation

Most of the accommodation we offer in Avoriaz is in self-catered apartments which we feel offers the perfect choice for families. An apartment allows parents the extra space and flexibility of a separate sitting room in every style of apartment except for a studio.

All apartments have either kitchenettes or proper kitchens which means you can choose to eat in some or all evenings (which can be easier with smaller children) with the option of eating at one of numerous restaurants located throughout the resort should you wish.

Activities for kids

The resort normally has a carousel in the centre of the village during the winter and a small outdoor ice skating rink - although check before you travel just in case.

The Aquariaz indoor water park is a superb feature in Avoriaz, fantastic for all the children. There's a main pool, a river, climbing wall and swing, half-pipe, mini flume, water cannons, Jacuzzis and a water play area. It's the perfect place for a poor visibility day or as a day or afternoon off skiing for tired and weary legs!

And as Avoriaz is car free it offers a much safer environment for sledging which is a staple of many kids ski holidays once the lifts stop turning.

Kids Ski School

Families will also love the famous Village des Enfants; +33 (0)4 50 74 04 46 which is wonderfully located in the heart of the village, run by the Ecole du Ski Francis who teach over 10,000 children aged from three to sixteen years each winter in Avoriaz. There is also an additional snowpark for kids at the top of the village, adjacent to the L’Amara and Saskia Falaise properties.

The British ski school in Avoriaz is fantastic - the Avoriaz Alpine Ski School. This gives parents the choice of private or group lessons and although it costs a little more than the ESF or Village des Enfants, very often children will progress faster with a smaller class size and the advantage of being taught in their own language.
