Resort Attractions in Valmeinier

Snowshoeing is more popular in French ski resorts than anywhere else, and in Valmeinier they take their snowshoeing very seriously, albeit in a fun way, with multiple variants on a simple walk in the snowy woods!

Daytime snowshoe hikes of varying lengths and themes are offered by several companies including Aaland Nature (+33 (0)6 70 22 33 22; aaland-nature.fr) They offer an evening hike option complete with night vision binoculars called, “Meet The Wolves.”

Alternatively ‘Snowshoe Walks with Lulue” are offered by Lucienne Zinant (+33 (0)4 79 56 56 75) with the focus on having fun as you walk, for the whole family with snow games and mountain stories.

There’s a third company offering snowshoeing too, Bouzandoc (+33 (0)6 22 36 53 28; bouzandoc.com), and Sylvain Ichard (+33 (0)6 33 36 65 45) offers ‘gourmet snowshoe treks’ which include a scrumptious picnic en route and possibly a full fondue meal at the end.

Shopping

Other than sports and grocery shops, the retail outlets are really limited to the minimum in Valmeinier.

In 1800 Carte Blanche (Place de l'Office du Tourisme; +33 (0)4 79 56 51 68) is a general news agents, souvenir and photographic store and Le Grenier d'Angeline Montagne furniture (Résidence le Saint Bernard; +33 (0)6 82 28 52 38) is a homewares retailer.

L'Espace K'DO (+33 (0)4 79 05 81 68) in the Lodges des Pierres residence sells gifts, souvenirs and post cards and Pourquoi Pass (+33 (0)4 79 56 89 50) and Ski M'Plait Gifts (+33 (0)4 79 56 84 89) in the Chalet Camille residence are also souvenir shops. Yam Photo (+33 (0)6 64 78 38 12) in the Avenir III residence is a photographic store and photographers agency.

The choice is more limited down in 1500 but Les Sens du Bois (Les Planchoseaux; +33(0)6 85 50 11 94) sells locally carved wooden items and there’s also the Tabac Noraz tobacco shop and news agents (+33 (0)4 79 56 80 44) that also sells gifts and souvenirs.
